A 15-year story, a 15-year adventure

It's been 15 years already. Fifteen years since Valentine's first drawing was displayed on the fridge. Today, HappyBulle has more than 500,000 customers, 18 passionate employees, and thousands of stories engraved in metal. Let's take a look back at an adventure that began with a small creative spark...

2010 - The [creative spark]

2010 - The creative spark

Bordeaux, 2010. Dorothée is a genetic engineer at the university hospital and the young mother of two little girls: Valentine, aged two, and Louison, who has just been born. Although she is passionate about her job, she does not feel completely fulfilled by it. In the evenings, she compensates by trying her hand at a thousand creative hobbies, dabbling in everything, searching for that spark that she feels is missing.

Valentine draws all the time, everywhere. Her creations pile up on the fridge and cover the walls. Dorothée looks at them with emotion. These little masterpieces are precious; they tell the story of her daughter's world. The idea of seeing them end up forgotten in a box breaks her heart.

One evening, she had a brainwave: what if these drawings became jewellery? She scanned Valentine's creations into Photoshop, isolated the outlines and placed them on coloured backgrounds. She printed them, stuck them onto brass findings, then poured epoxy resin over them. Mounted on Liberty chains or cords: the first personalised pendants were born.

Those around her were immediately enthusiastic. The HappyBulle concept was born.
Personalising jewellery with children's drawings, their handprints or their first writings.

2011 - The [birth of HappyBulle]

2011 - The birth of HappyBulle

Seeing how popular her jewellery was with her friends and family, Dorothée decided to create her own brand. The name came to her straight away: HappyBulle. "Bulle" means "Bubble" in French - it represents family, a protective cocoon. And it's a joyful bubble, filled with happiness, joy and children's laughter. HappyBulle - Their drawing, your jewellery!

She quickly created a website and developed her very first collection. Jewellery and key rings made of coloured resin, in different sizes and shapes: pendants on Liberty chains or cords, brooches mounted on large pins, bag charms attached to a carabiner. Dorothée put her heart and soul into it.

The resin technique is complex and demanding. Every night, she got up to pierce the small air bubbles that formed in the domes of resin as they hardened. It was meticulous, almost obsessive work to ensure a perfect finish.

And then the incredible happened: the first orders arrived. Real orders, from real customers won over by this unique concept of personalised jewellery. The HappyBulle adventure had officially begun.

2012 - HappyBulle [fills the house]

2012 - HappyBulle fills the house

The HappyBulle website was an instant success. Dorothée constantly developed new jewellery designs and explored new personalisation techniques. The whole family pitched in to help.

Everyone contributed as best they could. At weekends, Valentine and Louison had fun unpacking the letters from their plastic blister packs to save time during shipping. Jérôme, her husband, helped with the graphic design and animation of the website.

Soon, HappyBulle took over every room in the house. Starting in the master bedroom, the workshop now occupied the entire living room. Boxes piled up, chains, findings and resin domes invaded the family space.

Dorothée worked late into the night to fulfil her orders, taking great care to satisfy her first customers. Each piece of jewellery was unique, each parcel prepared with love. The adventure exceeded anything she had imagined, but one thing became clear: she would have to think bigger.

2013 - Time for [choices]

2013 - Time for choices

It's clear to see: success is on the cards. Orders are now coming in every day. Dorothée, pregnant with her third daughter, and Jérôme are working late into the evening, at weekends and even during the holidays to fulfil all the orders.

In May, just a few weeks before her due date, Dorothée takes orders for Mother's Day. A few weeks later, in June, little Aimée is born. No maternity leave, no rest: orders continue to pour in and must be fulfilled.

The resin technique is showing its limitations. Dorothée seeks to elevate her concept. She then discovered diamond-tipped metal engraving and repurposed a machine to reproduce her customers' designs pixel by pixel on silver and gold-plated jewellery.

This was her first real investment: the engraving machine took its place in the living room. New collections were created, more elegant and timeless.

2014 - The [great leap]

2014 - The great leap

Three children, two demanding jobs, impossible to continue like this: a choice had to be made. Dorothée had just given birth to Aimée, their third child, and decided not to return to the hospital so she could devote herself entirely to HappyBulle.

The deal with Jérôme was simple: they would give themselves six months to see if the business really took off, and if the results were there, he would leave his job in digital to join her.

May 2014, Mother's Day: orders were flooding in like never before, all the signs were positive, it was time. Jérôme resigns, and together they mortgage their house, take out a bank loan and create the company Happy Corp. They find small offices in Mérignac, France, which they equip with their machines and stock, then recruit their first employee, a graphic designer responsible for reworking the children's drawings before engraving.

Those around them were concerned, but Jérôme and Dorothée believed firmly in their project and worked day and night. The orders were coming in, and HappyBulle was no longer a side project, but a small business that was growing.

2015 - [Professionalisation]

2015 - Professionalisation

The company is becoming more professional. Manufacturing processes are being optimised, new staff are being recruited, and the business is expanding: every six months, new office space has to be rented to keep up with growth.

Dorothée is brimming with ideas and is constantly developing new jewellery designs. She wants to work with wood and Plexiglas and explore new horizons. Then she discovers laser engraving! Without hesitation, she decides to invest in a laser engraver and launches new collections of engraved wooden key rings and accessories.

For his part, Jérôme focuses on developing a tailor-made e-commerce platform. The aim is to meet the specific requirements of online jewellery customisation and offer their customers the best possible shopping experience.

Together, they form a wonderful team. She is creative and enterprising, always on the lookout for new ideas. He is a strategist and developer, building the digital foundations of the adventure. HappyBulle is no longer a family project born in a living room: it is a real business taking off.

2016 - [Triple-digit growth]

2016 - Triple-digit growth

HappyBulle has grown by 300%! The company is a real start-up that is booming. We continue to move every six months, as our premises quickly become too small.

We recruit and train seasonal workers for Mother's Day and Christmas. We negotiate with carriers and structure processes. Our fleet of machines is constantly expanding to meet growing demand. New jewellery collections are being created non-stop.

Dorothée and Jérôme are working every day. All this with three little girls aged 3, 6 and 8 and a busy family life. The days follow one another at a frantic pace and continue with homework, baths and bedtime stories.

This is a year of hypergrowth and restructuring for the company. HappyBulle is no longer an adventure, it's a marathon. Exhausting but exhilarating.

2017 - A real [headquarter]

2017 - A real headquarter

This time, we're thinking big: HappyBulle is moving into an entire building, just a stone's throw from the family home. It's fabulous! 400 m² to set up a high-tech workshop and recruit a dream team.

The organisational chart is taking shape: customer service, production, communication. Dorothée and Jérôme surround themselves with a team of passionate people who share their values and help them realise their dream. Everyone finds their place, contributing their energy and expertise.

The catalogue now has over 1,000 items that can be personalised with children's drawings, their handprints or their first writings. There is something for every taste, every budget and every occasion.

A symbolic milestone has been reached: over 100,000 orders shipped! 100,000 families who have placed their trust in HappyBulle, 100,000 stories engraved, 100,000 emotions immortalised.

The adventure that began in a living room seven years ago has become a successful business, driven by a close-knit team united by the same passion.

[2018 - La reconnaissance médiatique]

2018 - Media recognition

The press takes an interest in HappyBulle! These are the first appearances in the media. Dorothée appears on Europe 1, M6, TF1 and many other television programmes to tell her story.

A unique concept in France: transforming children's drawings into jewellery! Journalists are won over, the public is touched. That's it, HappyBulle is famous! Recognised for its unique concept of personalised jewellery, for this simple but brilliant idea of enhancing the works of budding young artists.

This media exposure accelerated and reinforced the growth of the small family business. They had to keep up with demand. It wasn't easy every day with three children at home. But what pride they felt to see their baby grow and be recognised! Seven years after the first resin piece of jewellery was made in their living room, HappyBulle became a benchmark.

2019 - The [awards year]

2019 - The awards year

HappyBulle has received numerous awards: voted Best E-commerce Newcomer by FEVAD, Growth Champion by Les Échos, and Best E-commerce Site by Capital magazine.

This is the reward for hard work, carried out by a wonderful, dynamic and passionate team. Behind each award are women and men who give their best every day to create the most beautiful jewellery.

Customer satisfaction has been at the heart of the company's values since day one. Every order is handled with care, every piece of jewellery is checked, and every customer is listened to. Already more than 15,000 reviews and an average rating of 4.8/5.

The e-commerce sector rewards these values. The adventure continues, driven by the same high standards and passion for detail.

2020 - The [COVID year]

2020 - The COVID year

The world has come to a standstill. No one knows what will happen next. Jérôme and Dorothée reacted early on, well before measures were taken at national level in France.

The entire team is equipped with masks. The building is disinfected twice a day: every door handle, every machine, every desk, every work surface. Suppliers' boxes are quarantined. Rotations are organised for lunch breaks. Some of the teams switch to remote work.

But the heart of the small business, the workshop, cannot stop. Orders continue to pour in, customers need comfort and connection with their loved ones. So the production team works for months with masks screwed onto their faces, in difficult conditions.

A huge thank you to our fabulous team for holding on and agreeing to work in these conditions! With such dedication and motivation! Thanks to them, we were able to get through this chaotic and uncertain period without ever disappointing our customers.

2021 - A workshop built [in the forest]

2021 - A workshop built in the forest

For two years, Jérôme and Dorothée had been desperately searching for the ideal location for HappyBulle: a space that could house both a modern workshop bathed in natural light and offices suitable for their digital team, but nothing really matched what they had in mind.

That's when a bold idea took root: why not build the building of their dreams themselves? Fate smiled on them when they discovered a superb plot of land nestled in a forest in Le Haillan, very close to Mérignac.

Despite the complicated context of Covid, they embarked on a construction project that would take two years: a space entirely designed for jewellery customisation, with a beautiful north-facing workshop with large bay windows to capture perfect light without glare, a friendly cafeteria and a wooded park for their employees.

In July 2021, the building was finally completed, the entire team moved into their new home, and a new chapter began for HappyBulle.

2022–2025: An [extraordinary team]
