Care instructions for your HappyBulle jewellery

As the proud owner of a piece of HappyBulle jewellery, we'd like to share with you our tips for daily use to keep it looking as good as new. As a general rule, we recommend removing your jewellery at bedtime as well as during any prolonged contact with water. Contact with cosmetics or cleaning products should be avoided, as they may damage the surface of the jewellery. Also remember to remove your jewellery during any leisure activity (gardening, DIY, sport, etc.) to protect it from scratches and other damage.

We are committed to using quality materials for our creations. To find out more, visit the page dedicated to material authenticity.
See below for our care instructions to ensure the best possible care for your silver or gold-plated jewellery.

CHARM MAINTENANCECORD MAINTENANCE

Charms and Pendants

Sterling silver .925

Silver is a precious metal that can naturally oxidise over time, when it comes into contact with air and humidity for example. Traces of oxidation can appear within a time frame that varies depending on several factors, such as the acidity of the wearer's skin and the conditions in which it is worn.

To slow down the oxidation process, we recommend that when you are not wearing your jewellery, you store it in a closed box or pouch away from light and moisture. If it does get wet, dry it carefully, remembering to dry the inside of any rings. Don't forget to take your jewellery off when you go swimming. Chlorine quickly damages silver.

The good news is that silver oxidation is a natural process that can be easily corrected. To restore the natural shine of your silver jewellery, we recommend that you carry out an occasional cleaning with our Happybulle cleaning cloth, made of very soft cotton infused with a cleaning product. You can also use our maintenance kits shine treatment and intensive shine treatment to clean and polish your most precious silver charms.

In addition, there are other small actions you can take to keep your jewellery looking its best. Here are just a few examples :

  • Toothpaste: Put a little toothpaste on a soft toothbrush and gently scrub your jewellery before rinsing with cold water, then wiping it dry with your cleaning cloth.
  • Lemon: Gently scrub your silver jewellery with a soft toothbrush soaked in lemon juice. Then polish with your cleaning cloth.
  • Bicarbonate of soda: Wet your toothbrush and sprinkle with a few pinches of bicarbonate of soda. Gently scrub your jewellery, rinse and dry.
  • White vinegar: Soak your silver jewellery in a glass filled with white vinegar for two hours. Rinse and dry with your cloth.
  • Beer: Soak your jewellery in a bowl of beer overnight, then rinse and polish with your cloth..
  • Salt (This tip is only suitable for very oxidised jewellery!): Place a piece of jewellery on a sheet of aluminium foil and cover with salt. Seal the foil and immerse it in boiling water for 30 seconds. Wipe dry, polish and your jewellery will be as good as new!

18k gold-plated

Like silver, 18-carat gold plating can be tarnished by a number of factors. As a first precaution, therefore, remember to remove your gold-plated jewellery before showering, swimming, washing up or doing DIY. Also be careful not to expose them directly to chemicals such as solvents or perfumes.

To polish your gold-plated charms and chains, wipe them regularly with a small infused HappyBulle cleaning cloth.

In addition to this gentle gesture, you can also occasionally use one of our handy tips  :

  • Ammonia : Pour equal parts water and ammonia into a bowl. Soak a soft toothbrush and gently brush your jewellery, then wipe it dry with your cleaning cloth. Note that this method should not be used on jewellery that includes mother-of-pearl, enamel or stones.
  • Toothpaste : Put a little toothpaste on a soft toothbrush and gently scrub your jewellery before rinsing with cold water, then wiping it dry with your cleaning cloth.

Stainless steel

As for our stainless steel jewellery, as a durable, solid metal it won't change colour, tarnish or oxidise! It's also hypoallergenic and helps protect metal-sensitive skin.

Acrylic

To look after your acrylic jewellery whether transparent or coloured, there's nothing more effective than a light cleaning with soap and water, followed by a wipe with a soft cloth. Your charm will be back to its shiny self in just a few seconds!

Pearl

At HappyBulle we also offer genuine mother-of-pearl jewellery. These charms, which may or may not be combined with another material, are made from Pinctada maxima pearl oysters. Because of their natural composition, they require special care. Clean them gently with a cloth soaked in soapy water, followed by clean water. To restore their shine, you can also clean them from time to time with a few drops of sweet almond oil. Be careful not to apply too much, as this will leave streaks, and remove any excess with a soft cloth.

Cords

Plain or two-tone cords

The plain or two-tone cords used to make our jewellery are made from high-quality, flexible braided polyester. Don't worry about how you wear them: their sturdiness and satin finish guarantee that they will stand up to the test of time.

Liberty of London cords

The cords on our Liberty bracelets are made from 100% cotton. They can therefore be cleaned with a mild soap and then air-dried naturally. We simply recommend not exposing them to any cleaning or hygiene products (perfume, cosmetics, chlorine, salt water, etc.) so that they retain their beautiful, colourful designs. We also recommend removing your jewellery before going to bed and showering.

Glitter cords

Glitter cords are made from 52% cupro, 40% polyester, 8% nylon and fine silver or gold dust. Cupro is a natural fibre that is anti-perspirant and hypoallergenic, so it feels softer than cotton and looks similar to silk. It can therefore be cleaned with a mild soap, followed by natural air-drying. As with all our jewellery, it should not be exposed to anything that could damage it (perfume, cosmetics, detergents, chlorine, salt water, etc.). Remember to remove your jewellery at bedtime and before any prolonged contact with water (showering or swimming).

Leather cords or bracelets

Our leather bracelets are made from genuine Italian cowhide. Like our imitation leather models, they can be cleaned with a cotton pad slightly moistened with make-up remover. You are also advised to avoid exposure to water and/or chemicals (perfume, cosmetics, chlorine, salt water, etc.). We also recommend that you take them off before going to bed and avoid wearing them in the shower. For genuine leather bracelets, we recommend waterproofing them before use.
